Application Process

Deadline: Friday 24th March 2017.  Suitable teams of three, compete for the coveted title, Caribbean Junior Cooks Champion. Participating schools will put forward students who will compete in four contests (April to July 2017) focusing on dishes with a Caribbean twist. The challenge is to be able to prepare a Caribbean styled dish suitable to be served in a fine dining restaurant. Please see Application Form for details and to enter. The competition is open to all students in Years 8, 9 and 10 who are actively studying Food Technology at school, or an alternative. Caribbean Food Challenge

Round 1 – Date: Monday 24th April 2017. Four shortlisted teams will visit Ealing Hammersmith and West London College, Hammersmith and Fulham College campus (Gliddon Road, Barons Court W14 9BL) from 10am-2.30pm. Each team will prepare and serve their 2 course Caribbean dishes to Hammersmith campus students during lunch time, with help from Hammersmith campus catering students.

Round 2 – Date: Monday 8th May 2017. The four teams will visit Ealing Hammersmith and West London College, Southall Community College campus (Beaconsfield Road, Southall UB1 1DP) from 10am-2.30pm. Each team will prepare and serve their 2 course Caribbean dishes to Southall Community College campus students during lunch time, with help from Southall campus catering students.

Round 3 – Date: Monday 12th June 2017. Three successful teams will visit Ealing Hammersmith and West London College, Southall Community College campus (Beaconsfield Road, Southall UB1 1DP) from 10am-2.30pm. Each team will prepare and serve their 2 course Caribbean savoury and sweet dishes to Southall Community College students during lunch time, with help from Southall Community College campus catering students. All teams will be judged on preparation, taste and quality of the food.

Grand Final – Date: Monday 10th July 2017 Two teams will visit Lambeth College from 10am-2.30pm. Each team will prepare and serve their 2 course Caribbean dishes in The Restaurant SW4 to students during lunch time, with help from The Restaurant SW4 Level 3 Catering students. A panel of experienced judges will select a winner based on the taste, creativity and presentation of their food.

Prizes

The winning team will receive a £300 equipment voucher for their school, a trophy and a complimentary meal in The Restaurant SW4 for both winners and their families. Also, all finalists will receive a certificate of participation. Professional judges will carefully assess each cook’s performance to arrive at the winner.
